Francis Sanford “Sandy” Brewster, 90, of, Stowe Vermont passed away
peacefully Thursday March 11th, 2010.
Sandy was born in Wynnewood, PA on July 25, 1919,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis C.
Brewster. He grew up on Long Island, New
York. After graduating from Great Neck High School, Francis
served as a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942
until 1946, where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Sandy and his wife Imogene (Mogee) were married January 14,
1944. After the war, they resided in Port Washington, Long
Island where they raised four daughters and were actively involved in
community affairs, especially supporting educational interests of the
public school system. Sandy spent his working career at Parents
Magazine in North Bergenfield, New Jersey. The family
enjoyed much leisure time on Eastern Long Island fishing,
swimming and vacationing with family and friends.
Shortly after retirement, he and Mogee moved to High Falls, New
York. Sandy treasured his family and friends above
all. He loved his garden, birding and flowers, as
well as the challenge of bridge and board games. Sandy’s keen intellect
led him to explore the technology of our time and his enduring
curiosity about the world was an inspiration to his family and friends.
Sandy leaves behind his daughters Wendy (John) Kopley,
Skaneateles, NY, Karen (Tom) Halstead, Poughkeepsie NY, Sandra
Brewster, Port Jefferson NY, Gene (Erik) Nelson, Waterbury VT and his
four grand children, Adam (Megan) and Matthew (Katherine) Kopley, Keith
and Kevin Nelson. In addition, two great grand children, Jacob Daniel
Kopley and Hayden Olivia Kopley, survive him.
A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the
Stowe Community Church, Route 100 Stowe, Vermont at 11:00AM.
