Wesley D. Chitty, Jr., 87, of Barnwell, died Feb. 6, 2009.
Graveside
service was held Feb. 9 at the Church of the Holy Apostles in Barnwell.
Mole Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Chitty
was born in Bamberg County. He was the son of the late Wesley D. and
Nannie "Nan" Faust Chitty Sr. He joined the S.C. Highway Patrol as a
motorcycle officer. During WWII he joined the Army Air Corps. He was a
decorated bomber pilot with the 416th Bomb Group serving in the ETO. He
was decorated again during the Korean conflict while piloting
helicopters. After military service he and his family lived in several
southeastern states while employed by several trucking firms. He was
predeceased by his wife, Marjorie B. Chitty and a brother, Martin
Chitty of Mount Pleasant.
Survivors include four daughters, Ann
Baxley Bowers of Little Mountain, Nancy Chitty Goldin of St. Augustine,
Fla., Betty Baxley Mise of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Marlene
Baxley-Cadmen of Alexandria, Va.; "Jackie" his beloved Jack Russell;
seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
