Richard A. Rawling, 87, of
Creamery Road in South Egremont, passed away on September 27, 2010 at
the Soldiers Home in Holyoke. Born July 24, 1923 in Lenox, he was the
son of Thomas Clarence Rawling and Lillian Dansereaux Rawling. He
attended local schools and graduated from the former Williams High
School in Stockbridge. A veteran of World War II he joined the Army Air
Corps and was in the European Theatre of war including Normandy.
Richard was a Staff Sergeant and support to 416th Bombardment Group,
671st Bomb Squadron and was honorably discharged on October 20, 1945.
Richard owned and operated John Giracca Insurance Agency from 1970
1989, previously he worked as an insurance agent for Prudential
Insurance from 1954 1969. When he retired, he spent many enjoyable
hours in his wood working shop. He was a member of the North Egremont
Baptist Church, the Cinncinnatus Lodge AF & AM, the Sheffield
Kiwanis Club and the Egremont Fire Department. He is survived by his
wife of 60 years, the former Virginia Steadler; son Russell and his
wife Beth and grandson Jay of Camillus, N.Y., his sisters Shirley
LaPier of Williamstown, and Irene Joyner of Inverness, Fla., along with
several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Judy
Rawling Paika in 1996 along with his brother Edward and two sisters
Priscilla and Lillian.
