Two days of bad weather again slowed up our offensive. When the planes did get into the air on the 18th, they were only able to get as far as the Seine River. The fuel and ammunition dump in the Foret de Conches was saved by bad weather. The bad weather lasted one more day.

Mission #79 - 18 June - Foret de Conches Fuel Depot. Captain Conant and Lt. McBrien, BN, Lts. Osborne and Forma, BN, Captain Dunn and Lt. Arrington, BN, Lts. Cole and Beck, BN, and Captain Hulse and Lt. Conte, BN led flights. Take-off was in reasonably good weather, but the closer the group got to the target, clouds moved in, with a 100 percent cloud cover at 12,000 feet. No bombs were dropped, so back they came fully loaded. No flak or fighters. Another Intelligence Officer, Lt. Mazanec rode with Captain Conant for "experience." This was his first combat mission, but he didn't get to see much more than clouds.

Transcription from USAF Archives
Thirty six aircraft were dispatched to attack the Foret De Conches
fuel and ammunition dump on the 18th in which we had six crews flying.
However, no attack was made because of adverse weather conditions.
2nd Lts Grunig and Singletary joined the organization as pilots on
June 18th.

Bright and early on the morning of June 18th this Group took off once again... this time the target was the crossroads and railroad and railroad crossings in the Foret De Conches area. However, upon climbing to twelve thousand feet and approaching the enemy coast, the cloud cover over the continent was ten/tenths, but the formation went in, in hopes of a break over the initial point. However, the bombardiers had no such luck for the overcast did not have any breaks in it and the planes had to bring their bombs back to base.
