Layford "Curt" Curtis, 71, of Cantonment, died Tuesday, March 13, 1990. Services, 10 a.m. Friday in Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Bayview Fisher-Pou Funeral Service directing.

Layford "Curt" Curtis, 71, of Cantonment, died Tuesday, March 13, 1990 in a local hospital.

Mr. Curtis was a native of Buckatunna, Miss., and had resided in Pensacola for the past 17 years, coming here from Baltimore, Md. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 884 of Mobile, Ala. and a sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Lyda Curtis of Cantonment; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and William Zuleger of Cantonment; a brother, Lester Curtis of Zachary, La.; two sisters, Flossie Smith of Moss Point, Miss., Myrtle Bumpers of Birmingham, Ala.; a grandson, Todd Zuleger of Cantonment; and a granddaughter, Tiffany Zuleger of Cantonment.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 16, 1990 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph H. Bullington Jr., officiating.

Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery with Bayview/Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway, directing.

Friends may call at Bayview Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday.

Masonic services will be held at graveside with Escambia Lodge 15.

Hit by flak over target area, fell out of formation with right engine feathered and smoking badly, went off to left toward Abbeville Drucat, Airdrome. No parachutes reported.

Description:
Lt. Norman V. Shainberg's plane was hit by flak and was last seen heading toward our lines, losing altitude. One or two crews reported seeing it crash. No chutes were seen to emerge. Lt. Shainberg and his two gunners, Sgt. J.D. Dugan and Sgt. L.B. Curtis, are listed as MIA.
